  1. Mike Franks says:

Some forty years ago, I myself was bullied. Just going through face to face bullying was rough. I can only imagine this generation is going through by social media like Facebook, instagram, yikyak for example. Many terrible, hurtful and untrue statements fly through these sites. You folks that use them just to make themselves feel good, (unreal how that comes to be) need to sit back and wonder to themselves, what kind of damage they are creating just by using their cowardly fingers. You all need to knock it off and concentrate on your own lives.

I posted this on Facebook on September 26th, but maybe this forum is a little more appropriate…

    Social media pressures

When hateful people decided to spread lies and hate in my generation they could reach maybe 10 or 20 people at most. Generally though, it was no more than their lunch table could hold. Today, the children of my generation have to deal with hate and lies that can reach hundreds and thousands. That hate can stretch across continents and span the globe. It’s a level of embarrassment my generation simply cannot relate to or even comprehend.

We as parents have failed to adequately address the way our children use these communication means. We have failed to achieve and instill an understanding in our children of the effects of hate on others. Perhaps because we just lack the capacity to have true understanding ourselves. We all need to do our part to try and inform, try to empathize, try to reduce the hate that is literally killing our children.

To this new world, please learn from our mistakes. Take understanding from the events that surround you everyday. Strive to do better than we have done. Empathize, understand, and forgive. Live a lot, love even more.
